Movie Production Logistics

OK, so it's day two of your shoot and you've planned everything to the last detail but you've forgotten to bring something crucial like a spare battery for the camera or a new video tape and it's Sunday.

Or someone arrived at the wrong station and needs to be picked up from twice as far away as you were expecting.

Or the shop you're going to film in is still shut and the owner isn't answering his phone.

So many problems on a shoot are simply logistics. Getting things to the right place at the right time for the right length of time sounds like it should be easy but you'll be surprised how easy it is for something simple to cause a major hold up.

Simple rule here is to make sure that anything that is essential has a backup plan if things go wrong. Easy example is lots of spare video tape and batteries in different places so that you don't forget them all if you leave one bag behind.

Getting people to the right place at the right time is down to meticulous planning and great communication but rule two is never to assume it's OK and everyone understands what they need to do. Make sure your Producer is constantly checking everything.
